Lab 13

Group Policies lab

  1. Install two Windows 8.1 client workstations.
    1. Networking: 192.168.10x.101 and .102, gateway 192.168.10x.1, DNS 192.168.10x.2
    2. Make sure they talk to the Internet with a browser.
    3. Name them CLIENT1 and CLIENT2.
    4. Activate them using Windows activation codes provided for you.
    5. Join them to your primary domain.
  2. Create OUs within your domain for Sales and Production. Move CLIENT1 to the Sales OU and CLIENT2 to the Production OU.
  3. Create shares for documents and profiles. All the profiles should go in the root of the profiles share. The documents share should have directories for Sales and Production.
  4. Create two users: “goliath” in the Production OU and “abigail” in the Sales OU.
  5. Set these users up so that they have roaming profiles and their documents will be stored in the shares as outlined above.
    1. Document storage should be controlled by a group policy for each OU. b. Profile storage should be controlled by the profile directory item in each user’s properties.
  6. Log into each user and verify that profiles and document directories are being stored in the right places.
  7. Install the supplied program and make it run automatically when anyone in Sales logs in.

Bear in mind: Dr. A will grade your project by creating new users in the two OUs, configuring their profiles the same as you have “goliath” and “abigail” set up, and verifying that things happen in the right places and the program runs for the Sales user.
